Dev Diaries: Search for Research

Hash Rush

It is the end of another period of intense work on adding and improving the features of Hash Rush, and we are excited to share them with you! With some of the crucial issues addressed and contained, we have left ourselves some room to breathe and, more importantly, to assess the priorities in the current stage of development.

Now that the gameplay is taking up a more precise, manageable form, it is time for some finer work! If we should single out one focal point of interest in the recent development, it is evidently in-game research.

In-game research has been mentioned and hinted at many times. As a functional part of the game, it was left lacking, but this time, its functionality has been addressed directly. What can be worse than reaching higher tiers of research on a building just for it to be torn down along with your progress? Luckily, this soon will no longer be of concern. We are actively working on separating the research progress from the status of the building. In other words: even after the enemy AI destroys the building, tiered research progress remains intact.

Directly related to it, more work is also being done on applying the building research and adapting the UI to handle and track its status changes. Pay attention, however. There are no freebies in the rubble of the Cryptonian empire. Each research is meant to cost resources, and now we are adding a cost and required materials for it in-game.

So, you can conduct in-game research. But what about the effectiveness of controlling it? This is an ongoing development point. We have already dabbed into it and will continue to update as more pieces fall into their place. As of now, we have addressed the proper activation and deactivation of all active and channeled research. This will enable you to further revise and change your mind about the upgrades and chosen research up to their completion.

Additionally, changing the status of research at blacksmith’s properly triggers the activation and deactivation of its global effects. Mistakes happen, and they should not be detrimental to your strategy! We got your back :)

Following the changes to the in-game research, more attention has been given to further diversifying the equipment system and its effect on units. Because proper research implementation adds a healthy dose of difficulty to the in-game progress, we have compromised and made some functional changes to the equipment research regarding its restriction; restriction per unit type is now replaced with a restriction per unit. Additionally, once a selected unit receives its assigned upgrade, the UI that tracks its selection is appropriately updated.

Furthermore, we have implemented values to the equipment system that will allow for a more detailed analysis of its status. This means that users can now track equipment’s status, including health points, attack and attack speed, and defense values. More status and equipment system updates are incoming! Keep an eye out.

Besides these two main aspects, we have also improved the research on the enemy AI’s side, ensuring the odds are evened out. Now more than ever, scourge beats are not to be scoffed at! With all the new options the in-game research has provided, our developers took the time to fine-tune and finalize AI unit upgrades.

We have undoubtedly achieved incredible progress in the previous period, but the building never stops, and it doesn’t restrict itself only to the in-game dynamic. To encourage the use of assets obtained from the game, we have now added and enabled marketplace trading between players! Naturally, you can access this feature by logging in to your Vorto website profile (https://hashrush.vorto.gg/home).

What do you think?

Let us know which upgrade you’re looking forward to the most and what you hope to see next. Let’s get the discussion going!
